Dr. T. DeWitt Smith, Jr.
Dr. T. DeWitt Smith, Jr. is the founding church planting pastor of Trinity Baptist Church. He is a native of Chicago, IL and is married to our love First Lady Sister Aretta A. Smith. They are the parents and grandparents.
Dr. Smith is a graduate of Judson University in Elgin, IL with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and received the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, OH. He is a sought after preacher, teacher, and guest lecturer in several seminaries and churches here in America and internationally. He has been invited to teach in the Doctor of Ministry track at the Ashland Theological Seminary for the 2017-2018 school year.
Dr. Smith served as the 18thPresident of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. from 2006-2010 – the denominational home of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He continues to have denominational and ecumenical involvements, as well as serving as a board member of the Morehouse School of Religion of the Interdenominational Theological Seminary (ITC) in Atlanta Georgia.
Dr. Smith is author of the following books: The Deacon In the Black Baptist Church; The New Testament Deacon In African American Churches; Deaconess On Duty; Training Trustees For Baptist Churches; Putting Laypeople To Work; Membership Orientation Handbook; Drop the Rage, Turn the Page: A Case for Religious Freedom, chronicles the rise of the Honorable Barack Obama to the Presidency of the United States of America.
