Trinity is a loving congregation of people who live to serve the LORD by reaching out to humanity. Our worship is warm and our people are loving and friendly.
Trinity was planted June 30, 2003 as a church of the Baptist faith under the leadership of the Holy Spirit through our Senior Pastor Dr. T. DeWitt Smith, Jr., after having served a joyful 12 year tenure as Pastor of the historic West Hunter Street Baptist Church, following the illustrious pastoral ministry of the Rev. Dr. Ralph David Abernathy. Our official Recognition and Installation day was September 20, 2003; the West Hunter Street Baptist Church officials were a part of our Recognition and Installation with the late Deacon John F. Wyatt, Jr. speaking on the church's behalf to welcome Pastor Smith and Trinity to the Baptist family. Much support came from West Hunter through our first few years that we can never repay. Our pastor continued to serve officiating some of their weddings and funerals until they called a Pastor.
We met in the Word of Faith Family Worship Center through the kindness of Bishop Dale C. Bronner and the assistance of his church staff and congregation, as they moved to their new Worship Cathedral. Pastors and their congregations from all over the nation helped with encouraging our faith on our organizing day and beyond with gifts and services to launch our success. As the song says, "We've Come This Far By Faith, Leaning On The Lord..."
Since that time we have moved to our home on 2218 Candler Road in Decatur, GA (12 miles from downtown Atlanta - the worship is worth the distance). With the assistance of Pastor Maria Stafford and the Free For All Baptist Church we were able to acquire this nearly five acre campus.
We have been members of the Progressive Baptist Convention, Inc., since our organizing. Dr. Smith later became the 18th President of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. We are also members of the Atlanta Missionary Baptist Association - our Pastor is a former Moderator, and the New Era Missionary Baptist State Convention of Georgia. Our Pastor Dr. Smith was an integral part of organizing the New Baptist Covenant along with other prominent Baptists across America under the leadership of President Jimmy Carter and Dr. Jimmy Allen - the last moderate President of the Southern Baptist Convention.
We continue to reach out to our surrounding neighbors with seasonal food service; it is our desire to reach the community with essential free health care in the near future: our vision for carrying out the Great Commission commands us to make disciples. Then with tangible acts of care and concern for the community we expand our vision from the LORD. We are a preaching and teaching church, extending Christian education through classes and institutes that meet the needs of people who want to know how to live out their faith on a daily basis.
We believe in the Triune God: God the Father, the Lord Jesus Christ His Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that the Church of God on earth, in every congregation, must preach and evangelize with the Holy Spirit convicting and convinces people to surrender to salvation as a gracious gift from God Almighty, through faith in Jesus Christ, as our personal Savior. Being filled with the Holy Spirit means Jesus becomes our Lord, and the Spirit leads us as we become sensitive to His presence and voice (John 14: 15-18; 16:13-15; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 16).
We believe that Baptism by immersion in water is for Believers in Christ only, and identifies us with the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our new lives in Him (Romans 6:1-5). We are sanctified (set apart) to live by God's Word, do God's will, and walk in His ways by loving Him and our neighbors as we love ourselves (John 13:34-35; 14:15, 21; 15:12-17).
We observe our Lord's Supper with all who have professed faith in Christ and have been baptized into the faith and hold membership in the Church of the living God, the pillar and ground of truth.
Our ministries are designed so people can serve where they fit best. We believe no one should be miserable in service because they are not where God Almighty needs them, so we train all believers to live out their faith, then use their spiritual gifts for ministry (Ephesians 4:7-13 are God's gifts to the Church (John 21:15-17; Romans 12:18 and 1 Corinthians 12-14; 1 Peter 4:10-11 help us understand God's gifts in the Church).
We believe the Scriptures lead us to minister to all we can touch through Worship, Fellowship, Education, Mission Outreach and Social Action (Luke 4:18). We believe ones spiritual gifts along with training leads to effective service through church ministries and community service. Trinity is about helping people move from mere membership to participatory discipleship, and then on to excellent, efficient, effective stewardship to God's glory.
We believe our children and youth must be come to faith in Christ just as adults do, and we train them to learn about Jesus, participate in worship, and to live out their faith through their thoughts, speech, and actions.
We are all taught to live in such a way that when Jesus Christ our Lord returns, He will be glad and ready to receive us to be with Him forever.
The Rev. Dr. Richard C. Flippin Executive Pastor of the Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church in Atlanta GA coined the term, THE TRINITY EXPERIENCE, when he was in seminary serving us as a student Intern in Trinity. That experience stays with us in these words, "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all" (2 Corinthians 13:14-NKJV). We invite you to join us in this rich experience each Sunday in Bible Institute at 9:30AM and Joyful Worship at 11:AM.
We believe in miracles because we believe in God Almighty who performs them in so many ways that benefit His Church.
Trinity was organized to be a blessing. Come and be blessed.
